Switching from one iPhone to another
The first step is to ensure the software on both the old and new iphone are up to date. Go to settings, general, software update. Let it run through if either need updating.
Using iTunes is recommended here rather than iCloud as it is not limited by account storage space.
Connect the old phone to your pc running iTunes using the USB cable. Once connected you will see this summary screen. Make sure the box is ticked for "This computer".
Then tick the box "Encrypt iPhone backup" and a pop up box will open asking you to enter a password. By ticking this and creating a password it not only protects your back up but also means it will copy over email account passwords as well so the set up on the new phone will be easier.
The progress bar will then display while iTunes creates a backup.
After it has finished the day and time of the latest backup will show here. It should be today and the time should be a few moments ago.
Now disconnect the old phone and connect the new one. When you see the summary screen again this time click the "Restore backup" button.
The box that opens will show the name of the most recent phone backups and below is the day and time. Make sure the name, day and time match the backup date and time from earlier and click restore. It will then prompt you to enter the password created earlier when the encrypt back up box was ticked. Let it run through and the transfer between handsets is complete.
